June 13, 2008

Friday the 13th, what a great day. Em went to work this morning, Mike, Dan and I went to Green Briar for story time. Ms. Mary brought out the snakes, Dan knew all about them and made sure everybody knew it. No Cygnets left.
Gerry came by today and taught me all kinds of new Cicada stuff. We watched a female oviposit (lay eggs in a branch) We found another tree with a mating pair which Gerry transferred to his hand to observe. After a few minutes Gerry started his stage 1 Cicada mating call and before long he had males flocking to him, chirping away. The remarkable part was that the male that was mating join in the chorus. It was amazing to hear the males go through all three calls on command. I even had some success in getting them to call.
Men's night is at Leone's tonight since the Cochrans are out of town visiting new baby Daniel.
